# How We Compare AI Firms: The Method Behind Our Vendor Comparisons

We publish comparisons of AI consulting and engineering firms, and we are one of the firms being compared. This page sets out how every comparison is built: the criteria, where the facts come from, what we leave out, how we write our own entry, and how to get a fact corrected.

We publish comparisons of firms that build AI systems for clients. We also sell that work, so every comparison we write has a conflict of interest built in. This page is how we handle it. Each comparison links here, and anything below applies to all of them unless the comparison itself says otherwise.

## Why we publish them at all

When we searched for the best AI consulting firms in August 2026, ten of the top fifteen results were lists written by a vendor that placed itself first or second, and none of them linked to evidence. Buyers read these lists, and so do the AI assistants that buyers now ask for recommendations, which means the claims travel without anyone checking them. A comparison that names its sources and admits its author's interest is more useful than one more unsourced ranking, even when a vendor writes it.

## The criteria

Every comparison judges firms on things a buyer can check from the outside, without a sales call. The general set has six parts. Named production work with numbers, meaning a client you can identify, a system real users touch, and a figure that could turn out to be wrong. Evidence of an evaluation practice, which shows up as first-party writing about test sets, regressions, failure modes and the cases where an AI approach did not work. Who actually does the work, judged from named engineers, case study credits and open-source contributions. Ownership and handover terms stated in public, and in particular whether the firm builds on its own platform that you cannot take with you. Engagement shape and price transparency, meaning a small fixed-price entry offer, published rates, and minimums. Independent signals that cannot be bought outright: verified reviews, contributions to the frameworks the firm builds on, talks with slides you can read, and partner listings on a vendor's own site.

Each comparison adds criteria specific to its subject. A voice agent comparison asks about latency and telephony. A security comparison asks whether the assessment covers the agent's tools and permissions or only its prompts. Those are stated at the top of the comparison they belong to.

## Where the facts come from

Facts come from the firm's own website, its Clutch profile where one exists, LinkedIn, Crunchbase, company registries such as Companies House and SEC filings, framework and cloud partner directories, and press. Every fact in a profile links to the page it came from, and every comparison states the date the facts were collected. Team sizes are the firm's own claim or its LinkedIn band. Where a fact cannot be verified, the comparison says so. We do not estimate revenue, infer prices, or describe work we cannot see.

When a site blocks automated reading, we use an archived copy or a second source and link that instead. When two sources disagree, we give both.

## What we leave out

Tool and platform vendors are excluded, because the comparisons are about firms that build for clients. Staffing marketplaces are excluded and covered [separately](https://vindler.solutions/blog/hiring-ai-developers-comparison). Firms with no public work in the subject of the comparison are excluded, however well known, and so are firms we could not verify to the standard above before publication. When a firm an assistant or a reader recommended is left out for that last reason, the comparison names it and says why.

We do not score, rank or weight. A weighting is where an author's interest hides most easily, and a buyer with a $30,000 prototype and a buyer with a $3 million programme should not be reading the same ranking anyway. Firms are grouped by the kind of buyer they fit, and each profile ends with who should hire the firm and who should look elsewhere.

## How we write our own entry

Vindler appears in each comparison where we do the work being compared, and only there. Our entry is held to the same standard as everyone else's, including the parts that do not flatter us: most of our case studies are anonymised because of client agreements, we are a small founder-led team, and there are buyers for whom a larger firm is the right call. Each comparison says who those buyers are. We place our own entry last.

We do not take payment for inclusion, and no firm in any comparison has seen its profile before publication.

## Corrections

If you work at a firm named in one of our comparisons and a fact is wrong or out of date, write to [contact@vindler.solutions](mailto:contact@vindler.solutions) with "Comparison corrections" in the subject and a link to the source. We correct it, and the comparison's method section records the change with its date. Facts are also re-checked when a comparison is refreshed, and the refresh date appears at the top of the post.

## The comparisons

[Best AI Consulting Firms for Production LLM Work in 2026](https://vindler.solutions/blog/best-ai-consulting-firms-2026-comparison) covers general AI consultancies, from global integrators to specialist boutiques. [Best Voice AI Agent Development Companies in 2026](https://vindler.solutions/blog/best-voice-ai-agent-development-companies-2026) covers firms that build voice agents, judged on latency, testing and telephony. [Hiring AI developers](https://vindler.solutions/blog/hiring-ai-developers-comparison) compares the marketplaces and staffing routes for a single contractor. More comparisons on specific kinds of AI work are added to this list as they are published.

Every list of the best AI consulting firms is written by a firm that ranks itself first. This one is written by a firm too, so it does something different: it names real companies, judges them on criteria you can verify from the outside, links every fact to its source, and says plainly where we fit and where we do not.

You have a prototype and you have decided to hire someone to turn it into a real product. You cannot evaluate their code, but you can evaluate everything around it. What to own, what to ask, how to structure the money, and how to tell in week two rather than month six that something is wrong.
